Grandview singles still seeking path to state tennis

— Three Greyhounds singles players will be seeking a path to state when the Central Washington 2A Athletic Conference District Tennis Tournament resumes her Tuesday, May 15.

Most of the Grandview entries were ousted Saturday, but the three regular season stalwarts are still battling. With some of the automatic state berths out of reach, two Greyhounds are trying to make it this weekend’s second-chance cross-overs with the Great Northern League.

Still in the hunt for a title and automatic advance to state is No. 1 boys singles player Marc Martinez.

The No. 4 seed, Martinez topped Toppenish’s Aaron Gonzalez, 6-4, 7-6(3) and Andre Hull of Ellensburg too make it to the semifinal today against Selah’s Jared Kieser.

Grandview’s Devin Amaro, seeded 7th, defeated Jaiiden Duby of Ellensburg, 6-4, 6-4, but then fell to tough No. 2 seeded Kyler Villarreal of Othello, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

Amaro needs to win two matches today to get to the regional at Pullman. He starts against Selah’s No. 2 Bo Beecraft.

Also looking for a trip to Pullman is No. 1 girls singles player Viviana Gill. She clipped Addie Klucking of Ellensburg, 6-1, 6-1.

But then she ran into Selah’s Margaret Ballew and fell, 6-3, 6-3. She will play Kenzie O’Donnell of Ephrata to start the day and must win three times for that Pullman appointment.
