Consumate conservative Jeremie Dufault seeks commission seat

Jeremie Dufault

Say the word taxes around Jeremie Dufault of Selah, and be faced with a verbal row.

Dufault is running for 15th District State Representative position 2 against incumbent David Taylor and two other challengers.

Dufault has to finish second or better in the August 7 primary election or his campaign is finished. He’s banking on the district being as conservative as he is. He’s knocked on more than 6,000 doors and spoken with more than 10,000 people.

“I believe elected officials have an obligation to know their constituents,” he said. “They’re called representatives for a reason.”

Dufault grew up in a modest household a few blocks from Davis High School. He worked his way through college and law school. That led to success in business as a real estate investor and developer.

“I rebelled as a young man and spent my early adult years as a Democrat,” he said. “My views changed, and I became a proud and active Republican.”

Dufault has served in the U.S. Army Reserve H, deploying to Kuwait and Afghanistan.

Dufault is a member of the Selah City Council. He is chairman of the YVTech Advisory board and has served on other community boards. His wife Amy, their two children and he worship at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Yakima.

The Dufault family has been in the Yakima Valley since the 1920s. That started with his great grandparents’ hop farms near Wapato and Moxee.

Dufault has said he believes in constitutional rights, open government, lower taxes and conservative values. He promises to fight against any new taxes, including the Seattle-backed state income tax and Gov. Jay Inslee’s “so-called carbon tax.”

“Washington state will bring in more sales tax revenue this year than ever before,” he said. “In spite of that, the Democrats in the legislature and Gov. Jay Inslee tried to impose a new state income tax and a new tax on manufacturers.”
