This town needs more shade trees

Daily Sun News Editorial

The community of Sunnyside needs more trees, for shade and for oxygen. Both would help with comfort during heat waves like the one the Valley has been experiencing.

The lack of shade is bad for people and cars. The strong summer sun can cause or contribute to illnesses. It can also destroy paint jobs by burning through seal coats.

Drive around, and you’ll see several cars bunched around the trees that exist. There are four on the sidewalk in front of Safeway but none in the parking lot. It’s the same situation at Daily Sun News parking.

There are several trees in downtown Sunnyside, but most of them are too small to offer much shade,

It’s difficult to find a shady place to park your car for lunch and then rest while listening to your favorite tunes.
