GRANDVIEW Rainwater Inc., a family business, just got bigger with the purchase of Sunnyside Softwater Service in March.
Following a struggle with cancer and subsequent death of former owner Dave Freeburg, Sunnyside Softwater Service was sold by his widow to Todd Thornock, owner of Rainwater Inc.
“Rainwater Inc. was started by my Father, Dean Thornock in 1965. In 1980 we began selling the “Kinetico” brand water treatment equipment, both water softeners, and Drinking water systems,” Thornock said.
In the 1980s, Todd Thornock’s brother, Mike, bought the business from his father.
He began purifying and bottling water in five-gallon bottles and renting water coolers on top of the original services.
“In 2000, I bought the business from Mike, and he retired,” Thornock said.
Under his management, the business has begun selling “a ‘no salt’ solution called “Polyhalt” that is great for treating the effects of Silica, a water impurity that manifests itself like hard water, but doesn’t come out with a water softener.
“We usually install this after the water softener, to greatly reduce the buildup and cleaning required. This has allowed us a higher level of customer satisfaction with their water,” Thornock said.
The billings for the two businesses have now been successfully integrated, and now Rainwater Inc. and Sunnyside Softwater Service needs only one office, so both businesses are housed in the Grandview location, according to Thornock.
“Our office manager, Maria Uribe, is now quite busy, as are all the employees as we attempt to combine the two businesses,” Thornock said.
The purchase of Sunnyside Softwater Service has dramatically increased the number of maintenance, service and rent customers for Rainwater Inc.
“We are committed to increasing the level of customer service these customers have received in the past, and we intend to make all aspects of their service improve, including computerized billing, automatic credit card billing and email statements,” Thornock said.
Though Rainwater has combined the billing and office area to one location at 143 Division St. in Grandview, the employees will still work at the shop area at 324 Eastway Drive in Sunnyside.
“We are committed to all our customers in every city in the Valley. We may be larger in size, but we stay committed to providing ‘old fashioned customer service’ that seems to be harder and harder to find today. We feel our offerings have increased, and we have more to offer customers than ever before.”
