Kills dog, is jailed

— A convicted felon was arrested here after allegedly shooting and killing a dog in the presence of its owners, according to a Yakima County Superior Court charging document.

Rigoberto Torres was arrested some time after 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 18. He was charged with third-degree theft, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Torres bonded out on the first two charges, Yakima County Jail records show. But he’s under $60,000 bond for the gun charge.

According to the record, the victims were three un-named persons. One, a female, followed another female to a residence at 109 Paschke Lane because the second female had been antagonizing her dog.

The suspect came out of the residence and shot and killed the dog, the record said. Then he pointed the gun at victim’s 2 and 3 and ordered them to leave. They picked up their dog and left.

According to Officer M. Deccio, who wrote the charging document, it was discovered after the arrest that Torres is a convicted felon and is not allowed to carry or posses a firearm.

That was the cause of the illegal possession charge.
