WALLA WALLA Watching international theatre without traveling aboard, just got easier.
Gesa Power House Theatre, 111 N. Sixth Ave., is launching its the 2018 Live Cinema Series Season, sponsored in part by Shakespeare Walla Walla.
The Live Cinema series features current productions by the Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Ballet, and Royal Opera.
The Royal Opera will present Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Alexander Joel conducts a cast led by Greek baritone Dimitri Platanias in the title role and featuring American tenor Michael Fabiano as the Duke of Mantua, alongside English soprano Lucy Crowe as Gilda.
Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca, also performed by The Royal Opera, will be presented Feb. 28. Jonathan Kent’s production of this dramatic opera captures the dangerous political turbulence of Rome in 1800.
The Royal Shakespeare Company offers its first show of the season on Wednesday, March 14 with Twelfth Night.
Direct from England, these professional productions are filmed live and rebroadcast later to select international screens. Most screenings run about three hours with an on-screen introduction and one or more intermissions.
