Sunnyside wins Rumble in the Valley

— The Sunnyside Grizzlies boys wrestling team has secured another tournament title.

The team won with 372 points, Granger was sixth with 165 points, Prosser was 10th with 125 points and Grandview was 12th with 95.

Sunnyside had two titlists, three second-place grapplers and four with third place honors; Granger had a first, second and third-place wrestler; Prosser had one first-place wrestler; and Grandview had a third-place finisher.

Winning titles for the Grizzlies were 132-pound Austin Villanueva and 220-pound Daniel Huizar.

Villanueva defeated Adrian Vivanco of Eastmont, 12-6; and Huizar pinned Ryder Goff of Colville in 2:34.

Second-place finishers were Andrew Macias (120), Moises Morales (182) and Jector Ramirez (285).

Third place wrestlers included Eli Barajas (106), Sam Guerrero (113), Izaiah Gonzalez (145) and Alan Ochoa (170)

Granger’s Juan Isiordia (145) won the sole title for his team.

He won a 7-2 decision against Alex Vaca of Wapato.

Robert Berger (160) of the Spartans was second.

Diego Isiordia was third in the 152-pound weight class for the Spartans.

Adrian Benitez of the Greyhounds was third in the 120-pound bracket.

Prosser’s Matt Hudak won the only title for his team in the 138-pound weight class.

He won via a 10-4 decision against Jesus Flores of Eisenhower.

Mid Valley Classic

MABTON — The Mabton Vikings boys wrestling team hosted the annual Mid Valley Classic.

All three Vikings competed at 285 pounds.

Jesus Mata was second to Hunter Dawkley of Reardon, losing the championship by pin.

Daniel Ramirez was fourth and Braiden Morrow was fifth.

Sunnyside JV wrestler Alexis Alvarado claimed sixth place in the same bracket.
