Beverly man killed in Vernita crash

— A Beverly man was killed Wednesday evening in a crash two miles south of Vernita Bridge.

Robert A. Weedmark, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 5:21 p.m.

The Washington State Patrol reported Weedmark attempted to pass another vehicle in his 2003 Saturn Vue 4D when he collided head-on with 2017 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by Ted J. Trevena, 56, of Leesburg, Fla. After the initial impact, Weedmark’s car then struck two other vehicles.

Trevena was not injured in the crash, the patrol said. Neither were the drivers of two other vehicles involved.

Those vehicles were driven by Gary M. Hammack, 60, of Kennewick, in a Ford F450 pickup; and James C. Brown, 62, of Longview, in a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer, the patrol said.
