Girls win 71-49, boys lose 69-50

Nate Garza of the Greyhounds rises above the Bulldogs for a 2-point basket.

— The Greyhounds girls basketball team defeated Ellensburg 71-49, while the boys lost to the Bulldogs 69-50 last night.

Leading the girls effort was Michelle Ruiz with 28 points, 4 steals and 5 assists.

Grace Meza tallied 16 points and 4 steals; Bailey Duiz collected 8 rebounds, and Marlene Castilleja hauled in 6 boards.

“After a sluggish start, we scored 49 points in the middle two quarters, which was fueled by our defense” Greyhounds coach Glenn Braman said.

“The scoring opportunities were much mor plentiful for everyone,” he said.

All his players scored and rebounded, Braman said, for the first time this season.

“Our defensive intensity was where we needed it to be,” he said.

The Greyhounds had just 11 turnovers, and Braman was pleased.

“The girls played one of the smartest games all year, and the most together,” he said.

Grandview and Ellensburg were tied at 9 points apiece at the end of the first

The Greyhounds surged to a 29-23 halftime lead with a 20-14 second period.

The Greyhounds were 11-of-22 from the charity stripe.
