Suspect cuffed without further incident

— A domestic incident Sunday ended quickly with the arrival of police, and a man who was reported chasing a couple of girls last Friday ended up in jail on a drug charge.

Police were made aware of the Friday chase incident at about 1:24 p.m., according to the charging narrative for Fernando Alvarado Velazquez’s preliminary appearance in Yakima County Superior Court on Monday.

According to the narrative written by Officer C. Quantrell, the girls were in Velazquez’s car when Cameron stopped the vehicle. But one of them, Maria Benitez, said she had left the same vehicle earlier because of an argument, the court record shows.

During the stop, Cameron observed a large amount of a green leafy substance in the car, the record shows. Quantrell said Velazquez gave him permission to remove the bag, according to the record.

In addition, the narrative showed, there was a large bag of green leafy substance in Benitez’s purse.

Velazquez told the officers all of the green stuff was his and that Benitez had no involvement, the record showed.

The green stuff tested positive for marijuana, and Velazquez was taken to Yakima County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and driving while license suspended or revoked, the record showed.

The Sunday domestic incident was called in at about 1:40 p.m. When Quantrell arrived at 215 Alder St., the victim pointed out the suspect, the charging narrative for Alexander Anguiano-Herrera showed.

Quantrell, who wrote the narrative, said the victim, Karem Anguiano-Herrera, pointed to Alexander and said he assaulted her.

According to the record, Quantrell informed Alexander he was going to be detained, and Alexander remained calm and was cuffed without further incident.

He was taken to the Sunnyside Jail on charges of second-degree assault, third-degree malicious mischief and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence, court records show.
