A new housing project along Yakima Valley Highway, from Scoon Road to the area facing the Law and Justice Center is a new sign that Sunnyside continues to grow.
O.L. Luther Co. of Granger was leveling the ground Friday.
The owner-builder of the project is Martin Velasquez of Sunnyside. It will front the highway, sitting between the highway and Velasquez’s El Dorado Village.
El Dorado was Velasquez’s his first housing project. It is a mobile home park.
“I’m proud of that project,” Velasquez said. “It’s clean, it’s safe, we have some fine tenants.”
Velasquez is just as excited about new project. The townhouses and their landscaping will beautify the west entrance to town.
And Velasquez doesn’t expect this to be the last project now that his son Omar, 21, has joined him. They’ll have to keep growing.
Velasquez doesn’t have a firm estimate of construction costs. He’s hoping to keep them under $1.5 million. And he as no rental estimates yet.
“I have to compete for the market,” he said.
The project calls for five townhouses of quarters for four families for a total of 20 living units.
