Pediatric dental resident named

— Second-year pediatric dental resident, Aarika D. Anderson Elter, DMD, has been selected to be the 2018 Western Society of Pediatric Dentistry Leadership Intern t o work with the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic's dental program.

The honor is bestowed to one resident or early career pediatric dentist each year from the 11 states (Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming) and Western Canada that comprise the western district of the Amer-ican Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, according to a Yakima Valley Farmworkers Clinics spokesman.

"Dr. Anderson’s strong commitment to children and families, as well as her pas-sion for advocacy make her the ideal candidate for the society’s Leadership Intern-ship,” The clinic’s Residency Director Dr. Jessica De Bord said.

“We are very proud of her selection for this tremendous honor and are confident she will use the training she re-ceives through this program to make a positive impact in the lives of children.”

The Western District Leadership Internship Program provides interns with leadership and governance experiences in preparation for future leadership oppor-tunities.

Dr. Anderson is in her sec-ond year of the New York University Lutheran Pediat-ric Dental Residency Pro-gram at Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic in Ya-kima.

As a resident, she comes on board at Children’s Vil-lage or View Crest Pediatric Dentistry, as a certified den-tist ready to practice on her own.

The residents, however, decide to enter the two-year program to focus solely on pediatric dentistry.
