Uplifting fun set in Prosser

After a hot, dry dusty summer and weeks of smoky Lower Yakima Valley air, there’s an uplifting weekend awaiting you in Prosser.

From Friday through Sunday, The Great Prosser Balloon Rally, Harvest Festival and Street Painting Festival will carry you away. The uplifting fun promises to take you away from the doldrums of everyday life.

You don’t have to go flying — although you can — to enjoy The Great Balloon Rally. Hot air balloons take off early in the morning from the airport and head toward downtown.

Along the way, accomplished pilots will take their balloons for a dip in the Yakima River above Prosser Diversion Dam. Thousands of spectators are expected to hit the river banks and bridge to try their hand at photographing the colorful balloons and their reflections.

If the wind comes up, flights may be canceled. But you can still meet the pilots and enjoy them tethered to the ground at the airport.

After the morning flights, head the rest of the way downtown for the Harvest and Street Painting festivals.

Over the weekend, artists will take over some downtown streets. With colorful chalk the coveted item of the weekend, watch as professional and amateur artists transform the blacktop into a plethora of pictorial platitudes. Residents, visitors and their children can join in the fun.

And while you’re downtown check out the arts and crafts vendors, bouncy houses, games and food trucks participating in the Harvest Festival.

Saturday evening, weather permitting, hot air balloons will turn the airport into an illumination sensation during the annual Night Glow.

Attend the uplifting events planned for Prosser this weekend.

You’ll be glad you did.
