Sawed-off shotgun leads to arrest

— Police arrested a driver after he was found to have a “sawed off” shotgun in his car.

Jose Z. Mendoza Sandoval, 23, of Sunnyside, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and unlawful possession of a firearm yesterday in Yakima County Superior Court.

He was arrested Saturday following a traffic stop for driving without a front license plate, court records show. The shotgun was in the backseat of his car.

Sandoval was previously convicted of felony possession of a firearm and possession of methamphetamine.
