Area teams suffer losses

— The Warriors came out on top of the Granger girls soccer team, 6-1, last night in South Central Athletic Conference action.

Grandview and Prosser competed last night with hopes of winning postseason berths in the Central Washington Athletic Conference playoffs next week.

The Mustangs lost, 0-2, at East Valley (Yakima), and the Greyhounds hosted Quincy. The score of the Grandview match was unavailable as of press time.

Sunnyside competed against Columbia Basin Big 9 foe Wenatchee and lost, 0-9.

Granger 1, Wahluke 6

The Spartans had difficulty defending the goal, allowing Wahluke to score back-to-back in the 37th and 38th minutes. Karla Gonzalez scored and Jecse Gutierrez quickly followed for a 2-0 score at the half.

A hat trick for Citlali Gomez started the second half scoring. She scored in the 50th, 53rd and 68th minutes.

Granger’s only goal scorer — Anahi Collas — slipped the ball between the crossbars in the 60th minute.

The Warriors put a bow on the win with a Jessica Macias goal in the 76th minute.

Wahluke keeper Blanca Gutierrez shut the door on the goal 7 times as her team went on the attack 14.

Jasmin Rodriguez kept the Warriors from scoring 8 times, while the Spartans made 8 scoring attempts.

The 3-6, 5-7-1 Spartans have three more matches before the postseason begins.

Prosser 0, East Valley 2

The Mustangs were confident they could win the match against the Red Devils, but came up short.

The match was scoreless at the half, but East Valley’s leading scorer — Taylor Plata — found an opening just two minutes into the second half and capitalized.

Teammate Kali Willet found the back of the net with just 10 minutes on the clock.

East Valley attacked the goal 5 times.

Prosser starting keeper Josie Williams wasn’t in the match. Standing in her stead was Addisyn Greene, who kept the ball from getting past the crossbars 3 times.

Bailey Wheeler of the Red Devils shut the door on the back of the net each of the 3 times the Mustangs attacked.
