Sunnyside swim team ends season at Districts

Seven qualify for consolations

— The Grizzlies swim team traveled to Manta Ray Aquatics Center this past Thursday through Saturday for the District Swim and Dive meet.

Several Sunnyside swimmers Thursday qualified for Saturday’s consolation finals, but were unable to place among the Top 2 to qualify for the Nov. 10-11 State Championship meet in Federal Way.

Each of the Grizzlies relay teams were seventh.

The 200-yard medley relay consisted of Kylah Bunch, Arizona Rodriguez, Arianna Sanchez and Allison Davis. They combined for a time of 2:15.32. Wenatchee won the event in 1:50.19.

Bunch and Davis combined efforts with Clarissa Calderon and Morgan Gardner in the 200-yard freestyle before tagging the edge of the pool in 2:01.11 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Wenatchee won that event in 1:42.15.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Daniella Duran, Stephanie Blankenship, Eternity Yanez and Gillian Moyer clocked a time fo 4:59.06. Wenatchee raced to a time of 3:40.23 to win the event.

Wenatchee won the District meet with 631 points. Sunnyside was seventh overall with 103.50.

In the individual events three swimmers — Sanchez, Davis and Rodriguez — were 12th in the consolation races.

Sanchez tagged the end of the pool in 2:42.60 in the 50-yard freestyle. Hailey Payne won in 2:09.79.

Davis clocked 1:02.93 in the 100-yard freestyle, and Gardner was behind her in 1:06.12 for sixth. The winner was Brooklyn Dressel of Wenatchee with a time of 54.59.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, Rodriguez finished in 1:23.51. Rae Ann Dressel of the Panthers was first in 1:07.65.

Amerie Stroh was in the consolations, competing in the 200-yard freestyle. She tied for 14th with Olivia Parker of Eisenhower in 2:40.56. Hanna Van Heyningen of Wenatchee had the best time in 1:59.03.

Bunch was 16th in teh 50-yard freestyle with a clocking of 29.66. The fastest among the competitors was Brooklyn Dressel in 25.12.

Calderon was 15th in the 100-yard butterfly, tagging the edge of the pool in 1:24.87. Payne won in 56.47.

Another 15th place finish was garnered by Blankenship. She completed the 500-yard freestyle in 7:34.22. Jordan Hartley of Wenatchee clocked the best time in 5:20.25.

Sanchez completed the 100-yard backstroke in 1:15.42 for 15th place. Wenatchee’s Kailei Wulf won in 1:01.14.
