Reward for Pikeminnow

— Anglers can fish for cash beginning today.

The Columbia-Snake river northern pikeminnow sport-reward program opened for the 2017 season.

The program continues until Sept. 30, offering anglers $5 for the first 25 northern pikeminnow, $6 for 26-200, and $8 for any caught after that. There also are tagged fish in the Columbia and Snake rivers worth $500 each, an official with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife said.

Pikeminnows must be at least 9 inches to earn the reward. They eat young salmon and steelhead migrating down the Columbia and Snake rivers.

Anglers must register before they go fishing. There are 19 registration stations along the rivers, including Umatilla Boat Ram and Giles French.
