Toppenish man charged

— A Toppenish man is facing a charge of second-degree negligent driving following a single-car crash.

Valentin Villa Ramirez, 29, was driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra westbound on Interstate 90 just after midnight yesterday when it left the road and struck a guardrail, the Washington State Patrol said.

Ramirez fell asleep at the wheel, troopers said.

He and a passenger, 33-year-old Maricela Villa Negrete of Toppenish, were injured and taken to Samaritan Hospital, the patrol said.

Both were wearing seat belts, troopers said. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
