Granger falls to Royal, 4-0

— The Granger Spartans boys soccer team suffered a Royal defeat Saturday, falling 4-0 to the 2B Knights.

“We lost,” Granger coach Salvador Mendoza said of the final score.

On the attack, both teams were nearly evenly matched, he said.

Granger had 7 scoring opportunities, Mendoza said.

The Spartans just weren’t able to punch the ball in, he said.

Royal zeroed in on the Spartans goal 10 times and Isaiah Farias was able to deny 6 shots.

Knights goalie C.J. Quintero recorded 4 saves.

Mendoza said scoring statistics weren’t kept, but Royal’s Fernando Ortiz scored in the 29th minute and Alex Contreras hit pay dirt with five minutes remaining in the opening half.

The Knights scored two more goals in the second half.

Granger hosts Warden today in a non-conference game. Game time is 4 p.m.
