Local man threatens to burn down eatery

Sanchez in court for El Valle threats

— A local man who threatened to burn down a popular Mexican restaurant was in Yakima County Superior Court yesterday.

Jorge Guadalupe Sanchez, 26, is accused of threatening to burn El Valle Restaurant, 410 Yakima Valley Highway.

He is charged with felony harassment and threatening to bomb or injure property after allegedly threatening to kill restaurant owner Gabriel Garcia, 48, records show.

He also threatened to burn the restaurant down, records show.

Sanchez entered the restaurant and ordered a beer just before 11 p.m., records show. He allegedly became upset with Garcia when the owner refused to answer questions regarding his birthplace.

Sanchez allegedly stood up and threatened to kill Garcia, as well as to burn down the restaurant.

The restaurant owner reported the incident to police and provided witnesses to the exchange, records show.

Two witnesses told police they would testify to Garcia’s account, one stating Sanchez told Garcia he should sell drugs.

Police, in a declaration of probable cause, said Sanchez appeared intoxicated. He didn’t provide a statement, “… except for advising he had his papers for this country.”
