Castro scores 27 of team’s points against Leopards

— Amidst the freezing rain and concerns regarding road conditions, the Leopards hosted their South Central Athletic Conference rival — Granger — last night.

The No. 6-ranked Spartans prevailed, 57-49.

Granger was led by Alexis Castro, who scored a game high 27 points.

The Spartans took an early 15-10 first-quarter lead, but Zillah fought to outscore them, 10-9, in the second.

The visitors maintained a 24-20 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, the Leopards clawed their way to tie the game, 37-37, by outscoring Granger, 17-13.

The Spartans got a second wind and the defense did its job in the fourth quarter. They surged to score 20 points to Zillah’s 12, clinching the win.

Castro dropped in five, 2-point shots and three 3-pointers. She was 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Teammate Sophie Blodgett scored 8 points and Emma Stewart tallied 6. Jayleen Vasquez scored 5 and Naya Roettger contributed 4.

Keely Teel dropped in a 3-point bucket and Lily Stewart and Kaitlyn Roettger each scored 2 points.

Callie Delp of Zillah scored a team high 18 points and Abbie Myers scored 11.

Samantha Bowman tallied 8; Trista Takes Enemy added 7 points and Megan True scored 3 points.

Lauren Ziegler had a 2-point basket.

Granger is scheduled to travel to Cle Elum-Roslyn on Friday. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.

No game is scheduled for Saturday.
