Changes ahead for Whitstran Brewery

Renovation, new line of beer planned

— Whitstran Brewery, 1427 East Wine Country Road, has been quietly serving the beer lovers of Prosser for more than 20 years at its location on east Wine Country Road.

A major renovation is planned, Managing Partner Humberto Rodriguez said.

“We’re planning to paint the whole building and expand the outdoor patio in the coming weeks,” he said. “In general, we’re going to spruce it up.”

The combination brewery and restaurant has developed a loyal following, who enjoy Wednesday trivia night and $10 burger Thursdays.

Recently, a Sunday “kids eat for free” promotion was added to the list of attractions, managing partner Humberto Rodriguez said.

Any day of the week, diners can play a game or two of cribbage while enjoying the local brews, he said.

A former city councilman Rodriguez, is aware of the need for business curb appeal. He joined the company last year, in time for the company’s 20th anniversary. Rodriguez purchased the controlling shares in Whitstran Brewing.

The 30-year-old said he is excited about his new role in the community. He previously served as the executive director for the Chamber of Commerce.

The brewing company was founded by Larry Barbus, who continues to have an active hand in the company.

The pair also plan to launch a new line of beer this year.

“And we have a new logo coming,” Rodriguez said “It’s a pretty exciting time.”
