Sunnyside man arrested on warrants

— A local man wanted by officials was arrested at the hospital last Tuesday and made a preliminary appearance in court yesterday.

The Sunnyside Police Department had two arrest warrants for Isaias Avalos, 26, and the Department of Corrections had another.

He was located at Sunnyside Community Hospital Aug. 22 and subsequently placed under arrest by a police officer after the warrants were confirmed, court documents said.

At the time of the arrest, Avalos was asked if he had anything in his possession the officer needed to know about. He admitted to being in possession of a gun, records show.

The officer recovered a 9 mm Ruger from Avalos’ pocket and removed three bullets from it, records show.

Avalos, in addition to being taken into custody for the warrants, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, records show.

He has a July 7 conviction for harassment and assault, and unlawful imprisonment. Both charges stem from a domestic violence case for which he was arrested in March.
