Bail set at $100,000 for Toppenish man

— Bail was set at $100,000 Friday for a local man accused of shooting at his girlfriend from a passing vehicle.

Omar Aceves-Nolasco, 23, of 371 Willow Tree, is charged with first-degree assault, assault in violation of a court order and unlawful possession of a firearm, probable cause documents state.

He appeared Friday in Yakima County Superior Court. He will be arraigned Sept. 30, records show.

Aceves-Nolasco, who had a prior conviction of domestic violence assault, was arrested Wednesday after Yakima County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called the area of Larue and Robbins Road, records show.

He and his girlfriend, a Granger resident, had gotten into an argument at Pioneer Park and she walked away to avoid further issues, records show.

As a friend provided her a ride home, Aceves-Nolasco and a friend began following them in another vehicle, records show.

The vehicle he was in “… pulled up alongside them, which is when she saw a pistol come out of the window,” records show.

He allegedly fired the pistol out the window once, hitting the driver’s side rear passenger door, records show.

The vehicle his girlfriend was in continued driving to Legends Casino and Aceves-Nolasco did not follow, records show.

There were no injuries, records show. Deputies took photographs of damage done to the vehicle due to his alleged gunfire.
