YAKIMA At last night’s swim meet, Sunnyside High School lost to visiting Eastmont, 125-60, at Lions Pool.
The Wildcats tapped the end of the pool first in the 200-yard medley relay, clocking 2:07.07. The team’s second relay squad earned runner-up honors, while Sunnyside’s team consisting of Kyla Bunch, Brielle Newhouse, Erica Linde and Allison Davis clocked 2:16.49 for third-place honors.
There weren’t any first-place finishes among the Grizzlies, but there were five runner-up clockings.
Jamie Stanton tagged the end of the pool with a time of 2:19.63, just more than 3 seconds behind Eastmont’s Brooke Tucker (2:15.99) in the 200 yard freestyle.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Brielle Newhouse of Sunnyside clocked a time of 29.55. Wildcat Kinley Wurl claimed top honors in a time of 28.69.
Morgan Gardner of the Grizzlies earned runner-up honors, clocking 1:08.97 in the 100 yard freestyle. Tagging the end of the pool first was Alaina Jessup of Eastmont.
Touching the edge of the pool just behind Eastmont’s Bergen Lane (1:18.34) in the 100 yard backstroke was Bunch.
Davis was the next member of the Grizzlies’ squad to earn runner-up honors. She clocked 1:30.59 in the 100 yard breaststroke, while Anna Musgrove of the Wildcats finished in 1:40.92.
The Grizzlies’ 200 and 400 yard freestyle relay teams also earned points with runner-up finishes. Swimming in the 200 event were Linde, Gardner, Clarisa Calderon and Arizona Rodriguez. They clocked 2:15.55, while Eastmont’s team finished in 2:04.26.
Bunch, Newhouse, Gardner and Davis made up the 400 team, which clocked 4:38.79. Eastmont tagged the end of the pool in 4:06.90.
Thursday, the Grizzlies travel to Wenatchee for a 4 p.m. meet.
