Red flag warning issued

— A red flag warning is in effect through 7 p.m. today.

The National Weather Service advises that gusty winds and low humidity could increase the risk of fire danger.

Wind are expected north to northeast, with gusts up to 35 mph, officials said. Humidity levels are forecast for 16 percent to 20 percent.

“Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly,” officials said. “Outdoor burning is not recommended.”

Officials with the National Weather Service said that a red flag warning means critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly.

The warning has fire officials concerned about the 600-acre Rock Creek Fire Naches. Level 2 evacuation notices have been issued for 62 homes in that area.

“A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior,” officials said.
