Zillah to host top-ranked Royal

Grandview heading to Ellensburg

— It’ll be a battle royale tonight as two of the state’s 1A football powerhouses face off.

The No. 4-ranked Zillah Leopards (1-0) host the No. 1-ranked Royal Knights (1-0) at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game.

The Leopards are coming off a 63-0 shellacking of Wahluke (0-1) last Friday. Meanwhile, the defending state 1A champion Knights knocked off the ranked 2A Ellensburg Bulldogs, 21-14. The loss bounced the Bulldogs from No. 4 in the 2A rankings down to No. 9 and ended a 30-game, regular season win streak.

The Bulldogs hope to recover from the loss, as the 2A rival Grandview Greyhounds (1-0) roll into town.

The Greyhounds are coming off a 43-21 victory over Kiona-Benton (0-1), a 1A school.

In other 2A action tonight, the defending state champion Prosser Mustangs (1-0) take the field in Toppenish against the Wildcats (0-1) at 141 Ward Road.
