Delvin Leroy Householder, 91, a long-time Valley resident, passed away, Oct. 13, 2016, in Sunnyside.

Del was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Roy, Idaho, to Lou and Lena Householder.

He married Delores Marie Duff, Nov. 4, 1942, in Yakima. Delores passed away July 16, 2000, after almost 58 years of marriage.

Del enlisted in the Army and proudly served as a machine gunner in the Pacific Theater, including Okinawa, Leyte and the Philippines. Among his awards were two bronze stars and a purple heart.

Returning home, the family lived in Bremerton where Del worked as a jointer in the shipyards.

In 1957, the family moved to Sunnyside to begin his long career as a farmer.

He helped build Priest Rapids Dam and also had his own barber shop at Valley View Market in Sunnyside.

He and Delores were long time members of the Lutheran Church.

Del married Pairlee Treat, April 18, 2001.

Del loved to entertain people with his harmonica. He played for people every time they were out and about. His dream came true when he played “Amazing Grace” at the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., on June 4, 2015.

Del was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his wife; Pairlee Treat; sons, Lee (Dagmar) of Sunnyside, Doug (Dotty) of Elk and Allen (Mary) of Sunnyside; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed! One of a kind. We love you. A special thanks to granddaughter, (Nurse) Jennifer Sanchez, for her daily visits and devotion she gave her grandpa this last year.

Viewing and visitation will be from 9–11 a.m., Monday Oct. 17, at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be at noon, Monday, Oct. 17, at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside, followed by graveside services at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sunnyside.

A reception will follow at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
