Spartans tennis splits at Highland

— The Granger boys and girls tennis team split its match with Highland yesterday.

The boys fell, 3-2. The girls defeated the Scots, 4-1.

In boys singles, Highland took both matches. No. 1 player Juan Santos defeated Alvaro Campos, 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 singles Eduardo Quiroz defeated C.J. Middleton, 6-2, 6-2.

The Scots won the first doubles match, with Granger winning the remaining two.

No. 1 doubles Jesse Gonzalez and Oscar Velasquez defeated Jake Slade and Alexis Ortiz, 6-7, 5-7 (tiebreak), 6-4, 6-2. No. 2 teammates Brady Williams and Malachi Cumpston defeated Pedro Dorantes and Austen Colin, 6-2, 6-0. No. 3 players Luke Jochen and Jake Stewart defeated Jacob Sausedo and Isaias Garcia, 8-2 (pro set).

In the girls singles, Highland’s No. 1 singles Laura Quintero defeated Anabel Castillo, 6-0, 6-4. Granger’s No. 2 player Alexis Arciga defeated Kristin Barnes, 6-4, 6-2.

The Spartans swept the doubles matches. No. 1 teammates Sierra Heitzman and Lindsey Carpenter defeated Lydia Rasmussen and Summer Larson, 6-1, 6-2.

No. 2 players Jasmine Aldaco and Moriah Jochen defeated Harmony Phillips and Jacquelyn Diaz, 6-4, 6-7, 10-5. Maria Campos and Ari Salazar defeated Citali Yanez and Maria Lopez, 8-4 (pro set).

The Spartans boys (9-5) and girls (10-4) host Naches Valley next Tuesday.


PROSSER — The Prosser boys and girls tennis team split its league match with Selah yesterday.

The boys fell, 4-1. The Mustang girls won, 3-2.

For the boys, Selah’s two singles players won.

No. 1 player Tristan McDevitt defeated Juan Guerra, 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 player Gunner Tucker defeated Alen Salinas, 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles action, Prosser won its only set with No. 1 doubles Cesar Solis and Nick Foster defeating Trenton Murdock and Matt Watkins, 6-1, 6-1. Selah won the remaining two matches. No. 2 teammates Tony Valencia and Bo Beecroft defeated Isaias Velasquez and Jeremy Josh, 6-2, 6-4. No. 3 players Jacob Button and Ben Barnett defeated Nate Dixon and Caleb McMurtrey, 7-6, 7-5.

In girls singles, Prosser’s No. 1 singles Joslyn Felicijan defeated Maggie Ballew, 6-1, 6-1. Selah’s No. 2 player Eva Hamill defeated Makayla Cruz, 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles play, the Mustangs won the first two matches.

No. 1 teammates Kyrsten Wiggins and Johnna Markus defeated Lauren McDevitt and Caylin O’Malley, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 (tiebreak). No. 2 players Sugeyn Gonzalez and Dulce Gomez defeated Erin Herzog and Alana Hall, 6-3, 6-2.

The Vikings No. 3 doubles Brooke Goodpaster and Clara Hamil defeated Jamie Fassler and Natalie Munoz, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

The Mustang boys (2-12) and girls (12-3) play Toppenish at 4 p.m. tomorrow.


SUNNYSIDE — The Sunnyside boys and girls tennis teams will travel to Selah for a non-league match today.

The Grizzlies tennis teams have two more matches this week before they head into post-season next weekend.

Sunnyside boys have posted a 3-9 record for the season, while the girls have a 0-13 record.

Today’s tennis match against the Vikings will be at 4 p.m. in Carlon Park.
