Yakima man faces eluding charges

— A Yakima man was arrested after allegedly attempting to elude a police officer Saturday night.

Jose Munoz Lopez, 41, appeared in Yakima County Superior Court Monday.

He was driving a Ford F150 on Yakima Valley Highway Saturday at about 75 mph, 20 mph over the posted speed limit, when a Grandview police officer observed him and gave chase, court records show.

The officer said Lopez ran a stop sign at the intersection of Tear and Woodworth roads. When the officer activated his emergency lights and siren, Lopez allegedly tossed a bag containing a white substance and a black item out his window, records state.

Lopez stopped his vehicle at Woodworth and North Puterbaugh roads, then accelerated again and ran through a stop sign at Woodworth and Bethany roads, records show.

According to court records, Lopez was clocked at 60 mph in a 35 mph zone.

He stopped at a residence in the 700 block of Bethany Road and was taken into custody by Washington State Patrol troopers.

Troopers are charging Lopez with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and violating an ignition interlock device requirement, records show.

Grandview police also have requested a charge of attempting to elude.
