Joseph Adamson, 67, of Chipley, Fla., formerly of Sunnyside, entered heaven Thursday, March 17, 2016. We wish him fair winds and following seas. Services will be this fall in his hometown.

Joe was born June 1, 1948 in Sunnyside, to the late Robert Earl and Marguerite (Chavet) Adamson.

As a teen, Joe worked for Herritt Trucking and Star Custom Trailers. He graduated from Sunnyside High School, class of 1966, and attended Gonzaga University for a year.

His dream was to be part of the ballistic missile submarine forces. Joe finished submarine school in 1968 and qualified in submarines in 1970 on the Gold crew of the USS Lewis & Clark (SSBN644). Other ballistic missile submarines he served on were, the USS Henry Clay (SSBN 625) Gold and USS Michigan (SSBN 727) Gold. His shore duty assignments were Trident training facility, Commander of submarine group nine, Strategic systems programs and Military Sealift Command, Cape Canaveral, Fla. Master Chief Adamson retired in Dec. 1993, with 26 years served.

Joe is survived by his life partner, Maria (Ri) McGlamery of Chipley; one son, Joseph Michael (Victoria) Adamson of Renton; one daughter, Kaelee Marie (Shawn) Harper of San Antonio, Texas; one grandson, Kieren Adamson; four granddaughters, Kiara, Makiah, Lila and Finley Harper; two sisters, Susan (Gerry) Manfred of Spokane and Dianne Leger of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, Rob (Kathy) Adamson of Auburn, Jeff (Jackie) Adamson of Wenatchee and Mark Adamson of Salem, Ore. Memorialization will be by cremation.
