Churches plans Holy Week services

— Lower Valley churches are planning special events leading up to Easter Sunday, March 27.

Starting with Maundy services Thursday evening, congregations will meet for Good Friday services before attending Easter Sunday services.

Here is a short rundown of services being planned:


First Baptist Church, 401 S. Eighth St., is planning Good Friday communion services at 6 p.m. An Easter Sunday service is at 11 a.m.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 327 E. Edison Ave., will celebrate Good Friday, at noon. Easter Sunday service is 10 a.m. with the Holy Eucharist.

Grace Brethren Church, 703 Franklin Ave., will offer its annual early outdoor Easter service at 7:45 a.m. on the lawn. An Easter celebration will follow at 10 a.m.

Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 737 S. 16th St., will host a soup and pie supper at 5:30 p.m. followed by Maundy Thursday with services at 7 p.m.

United Methodist Church, 906 E. Edison Ave., will host Good Friday service at 7 p.m.

Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1106 Taylor St., is planning a 7:15 a.m. sunrise service Easter Sunday, followed by breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and worship services at 10 a.m.

Neighborhood Assembly of God, 385 E. Allen Road, will host its Sunday services at 10:45 a.m.

The Church of Latter-Day Saints will host a live stream broadcast of Handel’s Messiah at 6:15 p.m. on Good Friday at the church, 2000 E. Lincoln Ave.

Christian Reformed Church, 700 N. 16th St., will host Maundy Thursday services at 7 p.m. and Good Friday services at 7:30 p.m.

Calvary Lutheran Church, 804 S. 11th St., will host a 7:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday service. Good Friday services will begin at 7:30 p.m. with Easter Sunday services at 11 a.m.


Bethany Community (Presbyterian) Church will conduct a Maundy Thursday evening service at 7 p.m., at the 201 Birch Street church.

All are welcome to attend. The service will include Communion.

The Church of the Nazarene, 500 N. Elm St., will host a “Journey to the Cross,” at 6:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday night and continuing each evening through Friday night.

A Tenebrae candlelight service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday in the church sanctuary. Communion will be held. Sunday morning sunrise services will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the church’s east lawn. Sunday service begins at 9 a.m.


Bethel Church’s Easter services will take place at 9 a.m. at the 1239 Meade Ave. church.

United Methodist Church, will hold Maundy Services at 7 p.m. with members of the St. Matthew’s Church, 317 Seventh St.

The Methodist church sunrise service will be held at 7 a.m. Sunday at the 824 Sixth Street church, to be followed by a potluck breakfast.


Grace Brethren Church will observe regular church services with Sunday school at 10 a.m. followed by worship service at 11:15 a.m. at the 428 B St. building.
