SUNNYSIDE The 12th annual Show and Shine Car Show, is moving to Chief Kamiakin Elementary School this year.
A fundraiser for the senior class of Sunnyside High School, the show is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 19, and is expected to feature more than 300 vehicles.
“We’ve outgrown the football field,” organizer Lisa DeRuyter said. “We couldn’t accommodate all the entries, so we’ve moved to a bigger location.”
The show started as a way to raise money for a safe senior class party, giving graduates a final send off before they scattered to work and college.
“The idea was always to keep the kids in a safe environment right after graduation,” DeRuyter said. “A lot of the participants know it’s for the kids and return year after year.”
The event is not just for car enthusiasts. In addition to a variety of vehicle vying for trophies, the event will have many activities for children.
Activities include face painting, balloon animals and bouncy houses. DeRuyter said Action Star Racing will be bringing remote controlled vehicles for visitors to race.
