PLYMOUTH A 31-year-old Mabton man died in a head-on crash last night.
Alejandro Diaz-De Los Angeles was killed just after 8:30 p.m. when his 2005 Chevrolet Malibu crossed the centerline eastbound near Milepost 177 of state Highway 14, the Washington State Patrol said.
His car struck a 2010 International truck trailer head on, troopers said.
The truck was driven by Belinda C. Blacketer, 48, of Spirit Lake, Idaho. She was not injured, troopers said.
Both vehicles were totaled.
The crash is under investigation, troopers said. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said.
Diaz-De Los Angeles’ family was notified of his death just after 8:30 this morning, State Patrol spokesman Chris Thorson said.
He is the Yakima Valley’s second traffic fatality this week.
A teen died Monday when his 1997 Honda flipped and crashed near Milepost 32 of Interstate 82.
Cobey D. Batrum, 16, was eastbound just before 10 p.m. when troopers said his car left the roadway, flipped and came to rest on its top.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, the State Patrol said.
The cause of that crash is also under investigation, troopers said.
