Air rescue for injured hiker

— An injured hiker is recovering after an air rescue Saturday.

The man was airlifted from an area near Dumbbell Lake after his 15-year-old son called the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office just before 1 p.m.

The boy reported his father injured his ankle, Sgt. Randy Briscoe said.

Due to the terrain, Briscoe said rescue teams were unable to rescue the man on foot. A helicopter from the Yakima Training Center’s “Dustoff” unit was used due to a lack of other available hoist units.

The man was transported to a hospital for treatment, while the son stayed with a search and rescue volunteer, Briscoe said.
