Youth fishing event slated

— The Bureau of Reclamation’s Ephrata Field Office will host its annual C.A.S.T. for kids fishing event Aug. 6.

The “Catch a Special Thrill” program provides one day fishing and boating events for children with a wide range of special needs.

“C.A.S.T. is one of the most rewarding programs for young people that I have been a part of,” event coordinator Jaurette Jackson said. “It’s such a joy to see them get to do something they’ll remember for a long time.”

The children range in age from 7-16 years old. Each receives fishing gear, a T-shirt and a hat.

Potholes Bass Club and Columbia Basin Walley Club members will be on hand with fishing boats to assist the participants.

The morning fishing events will be followed by a picnic lunch.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Potholes Reservoir, off state Highway 262. Participants and volunteers will meet at the state park.
