Deputies make arrest in Rimrock shooting

— A Yakima teen is in custody today on 14 counts of first degree assault.

Yakima County Sheriff’s detectives arrested the 17-year-old boy yesterday following an investigation of a shooting at Rimrock Lake in the early morning hours of June 25, Detective Sergeant Mike Russell said.

The suspect fired a rifle into a campsite, wounding a 31-year-old man, Russell said. The weapon was left at the scene and later determined to be stolen during a burglary in Yakima.

The teen was booked into Yakima County juvenile detention facility. The 14 counts of first-degree assault are for the 14 persons at the camp site he allegedly fired upon, Russell said. He also faces unlawful possession of a stolen firearm and other malicious mischief charges.
