Woman charged with possessing stolen vehicle

— A Prosser woman is facing a charge of possessing a stolen vehicle.

Jennifer Lee Evans, 36, appeared for a preliminary hearing in Yakima County Superior Court yesterday.

She was arrested at state Highway 241 and Jefferson Street Saturday after Chief Claude Cox spotted a vehicle with Oregon license plates blocking an alley, records show.

He approached the vehicle when Evans exited a nearby yard and entered the vehicle. At that time, Cox requested a license plate check and was told the vehicle was reported stolen from a rental service in Kennewick, records show.

Cox conducted a traffic stop and was able to take Evans into custody without incident, records show.

Two passengers also exited the vehicle, records show.

Upon questioning, Evans told Cox she rented the vehicle using false identification last month, records show.

The rental company reported it stolen June 30, records show.

Both passengers were released after Cox determined they had no knowledge the vehicle was stolen, records show.
