Deputies seek suspects in Thursday crime

— Benton County Sheriff Office deputies are still seeking suspects in last Thursday’s drive-by shooting.

Deputies were called to the 142000 block of West Evans Road after receiving a report of a shooting.

They found Olivie Cruz Hernandez, 43, injured by the gunfire, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

His 12-year-old son was with him at the home, but was not injured, records show.

Hernandez had a wound to his right forearm and was transported by ambulance to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, and later to Harborview Medical Center, records show. 

“The residence was found to have been struck multiple times from what appeared to be high-caliber rifle rounds,” officials said.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the incident call 509-628-0333.

It was the Lower Yakima Valley’s fourth drive-by shooting since May.

In September, Benton County deputies were called to West Richards Road, where they found a residence and vehicle had been hit by at least 10 bullets, officials said.

In July, a a 23-year-old man was shot in the chest and rushed to a hospital in Yakima for emergency treatment after he was shot while in the parking lot of a

Toppenish convenience store, Yakama Mart, 111 Fort Road.

The victim was seated in his car, when a red car drove by and one of the occupants shot him, Yakima County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Bill Splawn said. The car the suspect was in fled westbound on Fort Road.

In May, two men allegedly opened fire on a van on Grandridge Road in Grandview.

Francisco Jimenez-Gonzales, 40, and Francisco Villalba-Ocampo, 47, were charged with drive-by shooting and five counts of first-degree assault for the five occupants in the Dodge van they fired on, probable cause documents state.

All of the van’s occupants were from Grandview and none were injured.
