Range 12 Fire 60 percent contained

— A wildfire that started Saturday about 12 miles north of town is 60 percent contained.

Officials provided the latest estimates this morning.

They noted the Range 12 Fire has burned 176,600 acres. It threatened 250 homes. No structures have been lost.

Firefighters continue to maintain the 117-mile perimeter and mop-up efforts today.

Nearly 230 firefighters, 27 engines, a hand crew, a helicopter and a bulldozer have been used to fight the fire that began at the Yakima Training Center at about 7 p.m. Saturday.

The fire spread from the training center to federal, state and private lands, driven by winds. Grass and sagebrush provided fuel as it threatened the Hanford Nuclear Reservation.

Other fires in the region include:

• Halfway Fire, Naches, 74 acres.

• Snake River Fire, Colton, 11,000 acres

•Road 10 Fire, Grant County, 4,000 to 5,000 acres
