Shoplifters in custody

— Shoplifters attempting to take items from Walmart yesterday found themselves unlucky.

At about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday police were alerted by store employees to the first of two shoplifting incidents.

A female with a cart full of stolen merchandise was witnessed leaving the store. She loaded the merchandise into a vehicle and left the parking lot. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot at Goodwill.

After detaining several individuals in the vehicle, officers took the suspect into custody.

Another female in the vehicle was discovered to be in possession of suspected controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. That suspect was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

A second shoplifting incident at Walmart was reported about four hours later. A male suspect was detained by store employees and was issued a theft citation by police.

The theft of money from a vending machine was also reported yesterday in the 600 block of East Railroad Avenue. Further information is unavailable at this time.

Officers have also since yesterday handled a report of an abandoned vehicle, an automatic alarm, two animal problems, a civil matter, a domestic violence call, a juvenile problem, two suspicious activity calls, two prisoner transports, a livestock problem, two traffic problems and a vandalism report.

Police, too, provided a citizen with assistance, fielded an informational call and conducted two welfare checks.
