Sunnyside youngster robbed of cell phones at gunpoint

Sunnyside police were yesterday (Sunday) called to the 800 block of East Jackson Avenue after a distraught mother called to report her son was robbed at gunpoint.

She told police an unknown assailant threatened her juvenile son with a gun while stealing two cell phones.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to phone the Sunnyside Police Department at 836-6200.

Sunnyside police have since Friday also investigated seven other thefts, four of which were shoplifting incidents.

Two individuals were taken into custody last Friday after stealing diapers at the Sunnyside Walmart store, another shoplifter at Walmart was detained by police on Saturday and two suspects were taken into custody for stealing a microwave oven from Walmart yesterday.

Police also on Saturday took into custody a male suspect who was reportedly responsible for shoplifting at Rite Aid in Sunnyside. Official say he was in possession of drugs at the time of his arrest.

The other thefts reported to police since Friday include items stolen from a vehicle in the 300 block of South Sixth Street, a gaming system stolen from a residence in the 1500 block of South Sixth Street and a cell phone stolen from a residence in the 100 block of Parkland Drive.

Officers have also since Friday handled a reported assault incident, three domestic violence calls, a DUI, three juvenile problems, two runaway juvenile reports, three suspicious activity calls, two prisoner transports and two traffic mishaps.

Police, too, provided six agency assists and eight citizen assists.
