Three cheers for SHS team

During the recent National Cheerleaders Association camp at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, the Sunnyside High School squad earned several awards. The SHS team earned outstanding, excellent and superior leadership ribbons, as well as the Herkie Team Award named after NCA founder, L.R. Herkimer. During each of the camp’s five days, the team also earned the spirit stick. Six Sunnyside High School girls were nominated for the All-American team: Liliana Cisneros, Krisana Fernandez, Samantha Gonzalez, Elizabeth Juarez, Itzel Justo-Garcia and Yasaret Villafana. Team members include (top photo) Valerie Robledo, Andrea Diaz, Savannah Mirelez, Villafana, Krisana Fernandez, Alayna Fernandez, Kayla Martinez, Justo-Garcia, Janessa Frank, Leslie Rivera, Amber Avalos, Cisneros, Ana Diaz and Molly Marquez, Daisy Palencia, Dalilah Cuellar, Gonzalez, Annie Lara and Juarez. During one night of the cheer camp, all squads in attendance participated in a community service project. In all, 1,414 socks were donated to the Bright Beginnings for Kittitas County, which is a non-profit organization serving children birth to six years old.
