Sedro Woolley man joins Port of Sunnyside staff

Nathan Regal

Just a couple weeks before graduating from Central Washington University this past June, Nathan Regal applied for and secured a job in his chosen field.

Regal, originally from Sedro Woolley, is now in Sunnyside. He earned a degree in environmental studies, with an emphasis in biology and chemistry.

He joined the staff at the Port of Sunnyside as a lab analyst on June 29, under the direction of John Van Wingerden.

“The time was just right,” Regal said of his transition from being a college student to being fully employed.

As a lab analyst, he is responsible for daily collections of wastewater discharged to the port’s industrial wastewater facility from local industries.

Regal analyzes the samples to make sure the local industries are complying with industrial wastewater permits.

He said he is settling into his new job, finding it enjoyable to work with the staff at the Port of Sunnyside.

“It’s right up my alley as far as my interests go,” Regal said of the work he is doing.

He said it’s also beneficial to him that the trek to visit family isn’t too difficult.
