S’side church plans chocolate, red wine event

Red wine, chocolate and appetizers are on tap Sunday, Jan. 25, at Our Saviour’s Evangelical Church in Sunnyside.

The annual event is a foretaste of the Lower Valley’s red wine and chocolate weekend held each February.

Cathy Mears is one of the event’s organizers, and says proceeds from the $5 charge per person will be designated for the congregation’s operating expenses.

“A big part of that is our ministry and outreach in the community,” says Mears. The outreach includes assisting Nuestra Casa, local food banks and a quilt ministry.

In addition, the church last Christmas participated in the Angel Tree program, which provided gifts and clothing for children of incarcerated people.

Red wine and chocolate will take place at Our Saviour’s at about 11:15 a.m., Mears says. It will follow the 10 a.m. worship service and congregational meeting planned for that morning.
