Police capture burglary suspect

— The suspect in a string of burglaries last night was allegedly caught in the act by police.

A resident notified an officer of a possible burglary in the 400 block of Division Street at 11 p.m. and the officer spotted the male suspect a few minutes later carrying items believed to be stolen, according to a police report.

When the officer attempted to contact the suspect, police say he ran and dropped the items, which were then confirmed as stolen from the business.

Officers tracking the suspect lost him in a residential area, police said. They spotted a window screen taken off a detached shop in the 500 block of Wolfe Lane, about two blocks from the original burglary.

According to police, the suspect was inside the shop loading more items into a bag. Police confirmed the man did not reside at the home and arrested him.

Police are requesting two burglary charges, a first-degree theft charge and a second-degree malicious mischief charge. Police said the suspect has prior arrests for burglary.
