Toppenish boy injured in crash near Mabton

— A 6-year-old Toppenish boy is recovering from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash yesterday.

Kwayawi White was a passenger in a 2005 Nissan pick-up driven by Terrence C. Compo, 54, of Toppenish, the Washington State Patrol said.

Campo was eastbound on state Highway 22 at Milepost 23 when he lost control of the vehicle, the patrol said.

The pick-up crossed the centerline and struck a guardrail, troopers said.

White was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, officials said. Compo was wearing a seatbelt.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors, troopers said.

Officials said Compo was cited for speeding too fast for conditions.
