Junior rodeo finals staged this weekend

KENNEWICK – Rodeo events featuring young athletes from the pee-wee division up to age 18 will be held today (Friday) through Sunday at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Kennewick.

The goal of the second annual Northwest Junior Rodeo Finals is to encourage more youngsters to participate in the sport.

Rodeo competitions start at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, with events ranging from pee wee pole bending to girls’ cow riding to chute dogging.

Family fun activities will take place after the rodeo Saturday and “Cowboy Church” will be held at 7 a.m. Sunday.

More than 275 contestants are expected from Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Age divisions are for 5 and under (new to rodeo), 8 and under (pee wee), junior (9-11), intermediate (12-14) and seniors (15-18).

Admission is free. A concession stand will be open.
