YAKIMA – Yakima County Commissioners Kevin Bouchey, Rand Elliott and Mike Leita earlier this week signed a proclamation, recognizing National Community Planning Month.
Elliott said the proclamation is the county’s effort to recognize the work of its planners, who evaluate long-range plans for all of Yakima County.
The county’s long-range section manager, Tommy Carroll, said, “Community planning is essential to ensure that plans influence change in a way that best supports the desires of the residents of the county.”
The planning division is currently working on the county’s comprehensive plan for 2015.
Updating the comprehensive plan is an extensive process that requires public input on issues such as urban growth, land use, protection of the environment and natural resources, and economic development, according to Carroll.
Elliott said, “Planning affects the whole county…the proclamation is a recognition of the job done by our planners. They provide a benefit to our health and well-being.”
The commissioners approved the proclamation unanimously.
