Closures OK’d for parade route

In action Monday night, the Sunnyside City Council approved the closure of Sixth Street from Blaine to Warehouse avenues to all but local business traffic during the Lighted Farm Implement Parade to take place on Saturday, Dec. 6.

The request was made by the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce, which also is asking for no parking signs to be placed along the parade route.

Due to downtown construction, the staging area for this year’s parade will be the parking lot of the former Food Pavilion store at Sixth Street and Yakima Valley Highway.

This year’s parade route also reflects the changes. The parade will begin at Warehouse Avenue and First Street, proceed south on First Street to Edison Avenue, east on Edison and across Yakima Valley Highway to the Mid Valley Mall.
